Colts reporter Gregg Doyel gets suspended over his ‘inappropriate’ comments to Caitlin Clark during press conference
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Ever since Caitlin Clark has set the basketball world on fire, a lot of fans and media personnel are clamoring to get a glimpse of the Iowa standout as she transitions to the WNBA. In between all that positivity if anything negative comes through it is sure to make an unwanted mark. This was the case when Indianapolis Star reporter Gregg Doyel made an inappropriate comment during the Indiana Fever guard’s first WNBA press conference.

After he made those comments, the reporter who covers the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers, has stepped into some hot water. The backlash from fans across the world have made a dent in the Indianapolis Star’s reputation. Especially it has impacted Doyel, who is often seen as a respectable reporter. In light of this backlash, the Star have suspended Doyel for 2 weeks and will not be able to cover games.

This will be a blow to his game coverage credentials as the Indiana Pacers are on an impressive playoff run. On the other hand, the Indianapolis Colts are already undergoing their initial OTAs. Missing important interviews with players and coaches.

Doyel did apologize to the Indiana Fever guard and to the public. However, the damage was already done. As reported by Bob Kravitz, Doyel will be reinstated on May 13th. If in the possibility that the Indiana Pacers get booted out of the 2nd round of the playoffs, it could be a major loss for Gregg Doyel.

Caitlin Clark gearing up for WNBA debut on May 15th

After losing the 1st preseason game, the Indiana Fever will play their final preseason game on the 9th. These games are the perfect setting to prepare Caitlin Clark before she makes her regular-season debut on May 15th. That game will be against the playoff-contending Connecticut Sun.

Fans will be waiting to see how Clark shows out when the actual competition starts. Alyssa Thomas and her Sun teammates are ultra-competitive and will not give the young Fever much of a chance. However, if Clark can at least give a semblance of what the basketball world thinks of her, it will be enough. After all, once chemistry sets in, this young Fever team will play better.

The WNBA has never had this level of hype in its history before. Everything rests on the 22-year-old’s shoulders. The greatest college scorer in history is about to take her game to the professional stage.
