Insider says Cowboys’ Cooper Rush should be in trade consideration for Jets due to Trey Lance

The Dallas Cowboys find themselves in a unique position that very few NFL teams land in. Not only do they have a clear-cut starting quarterback and a player who isn't showing any signs of slowing down, but they have a backup more than capable of winning games and a third-string quarterback who's young with legitimate upside.

So when the New York Jets received the brutal news that quarterback Aaron Rodgers had suffered a torn Achilles, it opened the door for a number of questions, specifically at quarterback. While Jets head coach Robert Saleh has remained adamant that Zach Wilson is the team's starting quarterback, even telling reporters that "under no circumstance is any of this a competition, this is Zach's team and we're rolling with Zach."

But with the Jets watching the quarterback market and evaluating their options, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports made the pitch that Rush should "get consideration" in a trade due to the addition of Lance.

"I do think Cooper Rush should get consideration in a trade scenario since the Cowboys have Trey Lance," Anderson tweeted.

It would be a complete shock if the Cowboys opted to trade Rush, regardless of how highly they think of Lance or what they view his long term outlook to be. If, for any reason, Dallas needed to turn to its backup this season, the consistent play and rapport he's had with the Cowboys trumps any current upside Lance has, and it's unlikely the team would risk jeopardizing a year in which this group has the makeup of a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
