Watch: Texas' Xavier Worthy officially breaks 40-yard dash record

After talking a big game, ex-Texas standout wide receiver Xavier Worthy proved it on Saturday at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Worthy wowed Lucas Oil Stadium by breaking the Combine record in the 40-yard dash, running it in 4.21 seconds. He tops former Cincinnati Bengals wideout John Ross, who set the mark in 2017.

Once Worthy saw his time, he sprinted around the field in celebration before speaking about his outrageous accomplishment in an out-of-breathe interview with Stacey Dales of NFL Network.

"It's crazy. I've watched the combine my whole life as a kid, since John Ross ran that," Worthy said. "I never thought I'd be on this stage and do that."

Worthy's feat came on his second attempt. He ran a 4.25 on his first try but was determined to give it another go because, according to Dales, he wanted to break the "all-time record."

Those comments fit Worthy to a tee. Ahead of the combine, he told reporters he aimed to run a "4.2."

If Worthy's speed wasn't enough to entice NFL teams, his prediction coming true on Saturday might draw more attention his way

Over three years at Texas, Worthy recorded 197 receptions for 2,755 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Before arriving in Indianapolis, many saw Worthy going somewhere in the second round of the NFL Draft in April, but after his historic feat, that could change.
